Die Welt correspondent Christoph Wanner said in a report from Kyiv.
According to the journalist, his remark may be taken as a hint that any deployment of soldiers without Moscow’s approval could carry the risk of serious escalation. Wanner noted that the West is actively debating the possibility of deploying troops, but that ignoring Russia’s position leads to a dead end.
“Perhaps this is a hint that Europeans should under no circumstances be thinking about sending soldiers here if it isn’t approved by Russia,” the Die Welt correspondent said.
On January 6, a “coalition of the willing” summit was held in Paris, attended by European leaders as well as U.S. President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the White House leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. A Ukrainian delegation led by President Volodymyr Zelensky was also present.
After the meeting, Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron signed a declaration on deploying multinational forces in Ukraine after the conflict ends.
