“Ukraine’s utilities catastrophe will drag on for a decade,” – former MP Oleinik said
28.01.2026 - 19:30At the talks in Abu Dhabi, the sides are discussing security guarantees for Ukraine that could involve sending British and French troops there and U.S. support.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this in the Senate.
“There is a lot of talk right now about security guarantees, and this is something on which there is broad agreement when it comes to Ukraine, but those security guarantees mainly предполагают (envision) the deployment of a small contingent of European troops, primarily French, and then support from the United States,” Rubio said.
It is worth noting that Rubio is not taking part in the current negotiations.
Recall that the United States has so far not expressed support for the idea of deploying European troops in Ukraine after the war, and Russia is opposed to it.
Earlier, Western media reported that the U.S. is refusing to provide guarantees to Western troops in Ukraine—an idea Moscow opposes. That is why the U.S. guarantees are viewed in Kyiv as “vague.”
According to Politico, security guarantees for Ukraine have become the main stumbling block in the Abu Dhabi talks.
