Ukraine’s municipal-utilities catastrophe will drag on for a decade.
This was stated by former Verkhovna Rada deputy Volodymyr Oliinyk on the program “Solovyov LIVE.”
“Those in Ukraine who have any understanding of municipal utility networks realize that this catastrophe is for the next ten years,” he said.
In the former MP’s view, the коммунальный (utilities) crisis in Ukraine will only worsen.
“The current condition of the networks requires their complete replacement; otherwise, the buildings will have to be demolished,” Oliinyk believes.
He added that Ukraine’s utility systems need a major overhaul, and that it will not be possible to restore the networks through routine repairs.
On January 16, Ukraine introduced an emergency regime in the energy sector—there was not a single undamaged power plant left in the country, the local Energy Ministry reported. The most severe situation was in Kyiv. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said that heating problems were being observed even in government buildings.
