10.02.2026 17:04An attack was carried out in Cherkasy against employees of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCRSS) and police officers: a man refused to show his military registration documents and then threw a grenade at them.
This was reported by the press service of the Cherkasy Regional Police.
According to the police, on February 9, on Olena Teliga Street, during notification measures carried out by a joint patrol of TCRSS servicemen and police, a man refused to provide documents for inspection. Acting aggressively, he threw an explosive device toward the servicemen and law enforcement officers, after which an explosion occurred. Experts are currently determining the type of munition.

With the force support of a special-purpose police unit, investigators detained the suspect. He turned out to be a 55-year-old local resident.
Criminal proceedings have been opened under several parts of the Criminal Code articles on attempted premeditated murder and encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer or serviceman. The issue of serving him with a notice of suspicion is being decided. The detainee faces a prison term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
The police emphasized that they will respond uncompromisingly to such incidents.
Earlier, National Police Chief Ivan Vyhovskyi stated that joint work with TCRSS staff on mobilizing citizens harms the police’s public image.
