10.02.2026 18:01The family of Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Nazar Daletskyi, who had been believed killed but returned home during a recent prisoner exchange, will be required to return 15 million hryvnias (€293.5 thousand) that they received as a death benefit.
This was reported at a session of the Lviv Regional Council by Taras Podvornyi, the regional representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
The remains of a person who was identified as Daletskyi were buried in 2023 based on the results of a DNA examination.
“There is a legal issue: the family must return the funds that the state paid as a one-time financial assistance for the death of a serviceman. This legal precedent will be resolved. They will look for those responsible—who made the mistake and how—because we understand that DNA testing is extremely accurate. I think the greatest happiness for the family is that the serviceman returned home, not the money that the state paid them,” Podvornyi said.
