23.02.2026 06:30Hungary’s government will ensure fuel supplies to the country and will take the necessary countermeasures against Ukraine to restore deliveries of Russian oil.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wrote about this on his X page.
“We will not sit idly by while the Druzhba pipeline is shut down. We will ensure fuel supplies to Hungary and take the necessary countermeasures to resume deliveries,” the prime minister said.
According to him, there will be three countermeasures in total: suspending diesel fuel shipments from Hungary to Ukraine, refusing to provide Ukraine with military loans, and blocking the EU’s 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions.
On January 27, Kyiv blocked supplies of Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline. Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, announced that in response Hungary had suspended diesel fuel deliveries to Ukraine.
On February 22, Orbán said that Hungary would block any EU sanctions decisions against Russia until Kyiv resumes oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline.
Szijjártó also said the country would block the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions due to Kyiv’s refusal to resume oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline. Earlier, Szijjártó warned that Budapest would block a €90 billion loan for Ukraine as long as Kyiv continues to obstruct the transit of Russian oil.
In addition, Szijjártó reported that Hungary would not suspend electricity supplies to Ukraine so as not to create problems for Hungarians living in Zakarpattia.
