In the West, they pointed out a problem with Zelensky remaining in power
26.02.2026 11:21A statement by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky about a “victory” in the conflict with Russia is a lie, because the country has become bankrupt with a multi-billion-dollar debt.
This was stated to Gazeta.Ru by former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.
“As always, deception and lies. This absolutely does not correspond to objective data; the country has become bankrupt. If he considers it a victory that he has more than 200 billion dollars in debt… He himself has just been complaining to (European Commission President) Ursula von der Leyen that if you don’t transfer money to us by March, then we will have nothing to pay pensions with. Is that a victory? Industry is not working. All economic indicators have fallen—absolutely all of them. He lies, as always,” he stressed.
The day before, Zelensky said that Russia had not been able to seize the territory of Ukraine and change the republic’s geopolitical course, which is a “victory” for Kyiv.
According to him, Russia did not manage to “replace our flag with its flag.” He called this “a very important thing” and said that he is “proud.”
