The Kremlin said that Russia remains open to talks on Ukraine
08.03.2026 - 14:03Relations between Ukraine and Europe have become strange and can be described by the phrase “the tail is wagging the dog.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a conversation with Vesti journalist Pavel Zarubin.
“The situation is very strange. Because I get the impression that we have a case that’s called ‘the tail wagging the dog,’ rather than the other way around,” Putin said.
He argued that Kyiv’s behavior is dangerous and fairly aggressive. Despite this, the EU continues to provide Ukraine with military assistance, supplying not only money but also weapons. In his view, European countries are effectively indulging the Kyiv authorities, which could lead to worsening conditions in the fuel market for EU states themselves, as he said happened after the Nord Stream pipelines were blown up.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned that Ukraine’s “energy blackmail” linked to the Druzhba pipeline could end badly for Europeans if they keep ignoring Kyiv’s actions. According to the Kremlin representative, many European politicians deliberately avoid commenting on the actions of the Ukrainian authorities and “silence each other.”
