03.04.2026 10:39Russia will no longer agree to Ukraine joining the European Union, because the EU is seeking to strengthen its military capabilities amid its conflict with the United States within NATO.
This was written on Telegram by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council.
At the same time, he said he does not believe the United States will leave NATO.
“Of course, neither Trump nor America will leave NATO. There is no reason for it, and Congress will not allow it. Trump’s rhetoric is pure showmanship. Although symbolic steps such as reducing the size of the American contingent or refusing to supply something are possible. But that is not what is important here. It is obvious that there are powerful contradictions within the alliance, and these were aggravated by the Iranian campaign. And the European political freaks, especially in Brussels, are seriously thinking about creating a full-fledged military component within the EU. And that changes the picture of the world. Until now, our rhetoric regarding EU membership was restrained and calm with respect to all neighbors, even Banderite Ukraine. If you want to join, then join. But now everything must change — the EU is no longer just an economic union. It can rather quickly turn into a full-fledged military alliance that is extremely hostile to Russia, in some ways even worse than NATO. It is time to abandon any tolerant attitude toward our neighbors joining the military-economic European Union. Including Country 404,” Medvedev wrote.
It is worth recalling that earlier Russia had not opposed Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
