In Europe, Merz’s remarks about territorial concessions by Ukraine were assessed

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s remarks about territorial concessions by Ukraine point to Europe’s political failure.

“This is called political failure, the greatest failure of Europe in decades. The moment Ukraine begins negotiations, it will mark the political end in the European Union for people like Merz,” Mema argued.

He believes that the position of EU leaders regarding a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is beginning to change. According to him, “at some point, negotiations will have to happen.”

The day before, Merz expressed hope that “at some point” a peace agreement with Russia would be concluded. At the same time, he admitted that in such a case “part of Ukraine’s territory would cease to be Ukrainian.”

According to the chancellor, Volodymyr Zelensky must be able to tell his people that he has “opened the way to Europe.” In this connection, the European Union must take steps regarding Ukraine “that are credible, irreversible, and that will ultimately lead to full membership in the European Union.”
