13.05.2026 - 06:33Every day of the war costs Ukraine approximately €383 million.
These figures were presented by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha at a conference of the Polish Institute of International Affairs, “Strategic Ark.”
Sybiha spoke at the conference, which began the day before and concludes today. The foreign minister cited figures characterizing the scale of Ukraine’s military expenditures.
“Every day of the war costs approximately 450 million dollars. This is an enormous challenge for us, because we are paying the highest price,” Sybiha said.
Given that the war has lasted 1,540 days, Ukraine’s total expenditures on it have amounted to approximately €589.9 billion.
The minister also added that the current year could be decisive for achieving peace, and that “the ink of European history is the blood of Ukrainian soldiers.” In his view, ending the war without American mediation is impossible.
Earlier, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute reported in its study that in 2025 Ukraine became the world record holder for defense spending as a share of GDP, surpassing Russia by several times. Kyiv’s military expenditures last year grew by 20% — to approximately €71.6 billion. Ukraine is conducting the war primarily on Western funds.
Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers recently proposed an additional increase in defense and security spending in this year’s budget.
