11.06.2026 05:03Hungary’s new government will not supply weapons to Ukraine — this was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán at a press conference following talks with her German counterpart Johann Wadephul.
This was reported by TASS.
“Hungary supports the EU accession of any other country on a merit-based basis. As for weapons supplies, our position is absolutely clear. We stated it during the election campaign. We do not support the transportation of weapons to Ukraine,” said Hungary’s foreign minister.
In addition to the weapons issue, Anita Orbán announced that on June 3 a meeting took place between Ukrainian and Hungarian diplomats. Following the talks, the two sides reached an agreement on restoring the rights of the Hungarian national minority in Zakarpattia. According to the minister, this agreement allowed the Hungarian government to withdraw its objections to the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
The day before, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that Budapest would not tolerate double standards in Ukraine’s accession to the EU. According to him, Hungary is not opposed to the country joining, but will monitor compliance with the agreements on restoring the rights of the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia.
Earlier, Ukraine named an “optimistic” timeline for the country’s accession to the EU.
