A seat for Wittkoff: the U.S. ambassador’s post in Moscow being prepared for Trump’s envoy
26.10.2026 17:06A meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and representatives of the European Union and the United States is planned for October 27–28 in Brussels.
Zelensky announced this in an interview with TSN, as reported by Yevropeyska Pravda.
According to the president, the meeting is expected to address security issues, guarantees for Ukraine, and initiatives to end the war launched by Russia.
Zelensky recalled that last week in Oslo, talks were held with US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, with the participation of Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. In addition, negotiations took place in a broader format — involving security advisers to the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Italy, as well as the chief of staff of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Björn Seibert.
After the American side briefed Zelensky on Witkoff’s talks with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, a decision was made to hold a meeting in an expanded format.
“We had a briefing from the Americans, and now they want not just a briefing but a broad discussion of security issues, guarantees, the EU and its participation. And they want a meeting this week, already in Brussels. The Americans, Ukraine, the EU at the presidential level, and NATO at the level of the NATO Secretary General. And I don’t know whether anyone else will be in this group in Brussels… We are planning such a meeting for Tuesday–Wednesday already, October 27–28,” — Zelensky said.
On October 23, Zelensky spoke with special envoys of US President Donald Trump and stated that a trilateral meeting at the team level on the question of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine is planned for the first half of November. According to sources in the US government, the next round of talks between delegations from the US, Ukraine, and Russia may take place in Abu Dhabi or Switzerland.
