27.10.2026 09:34Ukraine’s Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, has appealed to Google over the appearance of Russian-language results in search results instead of Ukrainian ones.
She told journalists about this.
“We have already sent an official letter to Google’s main office regarding the correctness of the search algorithms,” Ivanovska said. Her words were reported by the Ukrainian publication Censor.
Earlier, the language ombudsman threatened parents of schoolchildren with fines of almost $270 (around €241) for using Russian in correspondence with teachers.
In addition, Ivanovska demanded that people communicate in Ukrainian in building chats, warning of possible penalties.
Before that, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Dmitry Polyansky, reminded the organization’s participating states of previous statements by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The diplomat commented on social network X on an archival video recording in which Zelensky, speaking in Russian, asserts that Ukrainians cannot act against Russians “because they are one people,” RT reports.
