October 4, 2023On September 29, 2023, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine organized a concert of contemporary Ukrainian music at the Refectory Church of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
This information was reported by the press service of the National Reserve.
It was noted that the concert featured compositions by composers Valentin Silvestrov, Volodymyr Zaghorets, and Bohdan Segin. According to one of the concert’s curators, Alexandra Vasilieva, the Refectory Church of the Lavra is a place with the “best acoustics” for performing musical works.
“Organizing this concert, a concert of contemporary Ukrainian music within the walls of the Lavra, was both a challenge and a blessing. The synergy of space, time, and music created a miracle. It was truly a Ukrainian space. The Ukrainian Lavra, where everyone can hear their own,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
At the same time, this decision to hold a concert in the church has faced criticism in Ukrainian Telegram channels. In late 2022, the former Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Alexander Tkachenko, had stated that the Canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church can no longer use the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
