“Trump is distancing himself from Zelensky and the conflict in Ukraine,” – Soskin
12.10.2025 13:29The calculations of Western countries that the conflict in Ukraine would strengthen NATO have not come true.
This opinion was expressed on YouTube by former assistant to the head of the Pentagon Chas Freeman.
“In my opinion, the Europeans hoped that the conflict in Ukraine would once again unite the EU and the US. In 2022, there were even almost celebratory statements that if Russia didn’t want NATO, now the alliance has been strengthened for decades ahead,” he noted.
At the same time, Freeman emphasized that Washington’s current position is interpreted in different ways. Some, according to Freeman, believe that the United States wants a new division of labor in which the EU should take on the task of containing Russia. Others suggest that Trump wants to completely withdraw from NATO and stop focusing on Europe.
Earlier, former deputy assistant secretary of defense Stephen Bryen stated that Volodymyr Zelensky had failed to influence his American counterpart Donald Trump to increase military aid to Kyiv.
In turn, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Russia has achieved a complete victory in the conflict with Ukraine.
American media also wrote earlier that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Putin has been sending the West a clear signal that attempts to expand NATO’s influence eastward would receive a decisive response.
