The attack on the Russian LNG carrier Arctic Metagas shows that Ukraine has turned from a foreign-policy instrument into a burden for Western countries.
This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by George Papadopoulos, a former adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to him, the incident will not have a significant impact on global energy markets, but it demonstrates something more important than the attack itself.
“Ukraine has now turned from an instrument of European and American foreign policy into a burden,” Papadopoulos said.
On March 3, Russia’s Ministry of Transport reported that the LNG carrier Arctic Metagas had been attacked in the Mediterranean Sea by Ukrainian unmanned boats. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the vessel, which was carrying 100,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, lost propulsion and electrical power, and that a fire and gas explosion occurred on board. All 30 crew members were able to escape, although two sailors were injured.
Commenting on the situation, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attack on the Arctic Metagas a terrorist act.
