07.10.2024 12:56The mother of a Kyiv City Council deputy is having her luxury Range Rover SUV confiscated, which was officially purchased for only 65,000 UAH (1,430 euros).
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutors proved in court that a deputy of the IX convocation of the Kyiv City Council committed an administrative offense related to corruption, specifically under the article regarding receiving gifts. It was established that in 2022, the deputy’s mother, with the help of his assistant-consultant, acquired a 2020 Range Rover Sport from a legal entity for only 65,000 UAH (whereas its market value is at least 2 million UAH, more than 44,000 euros). In his 2023 declaration, the deputy reported that he used a car valued at more than 2.3 million UAH (50,600 euros).
After reviewing the case, the court ruled that the purchase of the car at a significantly reduced price was considered a gift to a close relative of the deputy, which is prohibited by the “Law on Preventing Corruption.”
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv found the deputy guilty and imposed a fine of 2,550 UAH (56 euros) with the confiscation of the gift. The Kyiv Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the first instance court following the appeal review.
According to media reports, the case refers to Igor Opadchy from the “Udar” party, led by Mayor Vitali Klitschko. He confirmed to journalists that the case concerns his family and stated his intention to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
