13.06.2024 - 15:03A prosecutor in Kyiv embezzled over 4 million Hryvnia (97,446 euros) seized during an investigation and subsequently stopped showing up for work. The man has been detained and charged with abuse of office.
Journalists reported this information, citing the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).
According to the agency, last summer, the prosecutor was overseeing a criminal case against a private enterprise. During searches, he seized 4,242,000 in various currencies, equivalent to 97,446 euros.
However, instead of transferring the money to proper storage, the prosecutor kept it for himself. Afterward, he stopped going to work and did not appear at the address listed as his actual place of residence.
“The suspect is charged with abuse of office involving the appropriation of another’s property in particularly large amounts (part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of this article provides for a punishment of up to 15 years in prison. He has been placed under a personal obligation as a preventive measure,” the SBI concluded.
