10.07.2024 - 15:13Georgiy Mazurashu, a member of parliament from the “Servant of the People” party, shared the story of a 57-year-old man with dual Ukrainian and British citizenship who had to bribe his way across the Carpathians to leave the country because he was not allowed to exit legally.
The parliamentarian shared this story on television.
Ten years ago, the man obtained British citizenship and came to Ukraine to visit relatives in the Lviv region. Shortly after, the police visited him and warned him not to leave even the village limits because he had not updated his military registration data at the territorial recruitment center. The law enforcement officers added that border guards would definitely not let him leave the country.
As a result, the man paid 9,000 euros to organizers of illegal exit schemes and, along with a group of other citizens, left the country through the mountains.
“Do we think he has more desire to help his native state after this? Or perhaps the opposite?” Mazurashu asked rhetorically.
Previously, the Israeli embassy recommended that Israeli men aged 18-60 with dual (Israeli and Ukrainian) citizenship refrain from traveling to Ukraine because they are being detained when trying to leave the country.
Additionally, there was a report about a Ukrainian student studying in Canada who won a case regarding his mobilization. He tried to leave Ukraine but was stopped a few kilometers from the border at a checkpoint, forcibly taken to the territorial recruitment center, registered for military service, required to undergo a medical commission and enlisted the same day. His phone was confiscated and all his objections were ignored.
