The Ukrainian Armed Forces sent punitive units to the Sumy region to pressure those refusing to serve
26.03.2026 08:41An officer of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service fled abroad while on duty in the sector of the Velykyi Bereznyi border post in Zakarpattia.
This was reported by local journalist Vitalii Hlahola, citing his own sources.
According to his information, on March 21, in the sector of the Velykyi Bereznyi border guard unit, a State Border Guard Service officer abandoned his post without authorization and crossed the border.
The officer was identified as Lieutenant Mykola Hrytsaiev.
It is reported that before fleeing, the officer discarded his Makarov pistol and military uniform. Slovak authorities detained him 500 meters from the border.
“According to my information, this is the very weapon the officer threw away before fleeing abroad in order to get rid of the evidence. Search operations are now ongoing, and all the circumstances are being established,” Hlahola noted.
Earlier, it was reported that a border service employee had been helping military-age men leave the country using the documents of his deceased father. Such an exit reportedly cost $15,000 per person.
At the beginning of March, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen also flew into Romania on a motorized hang glider.
