23.09.2024 09:01A soldier of the 56th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Serhii Hnizdilov, announced via Facebook that he is going “AWOL” (absent without leave).
“Starting today, I am going AWOL until clear service terms are established or until my 25th birthday, having completed five years of impeccable military service,” the soldier wrote.
He is demanding that the authorities introduce demobilization for those who have been in the army for a long time.
“Without a set service term, without a clear right to demobilization, returning to the peaceful rear and listening to society, a volunteer begins to realize that serfdom has not been abolished and that he has been made guilty and responsible,” Hnizdilov wrote.
According to him, “migration to the rear, to relative safety,” is beginning in the AFU. He believes that the widespread evasion of mobilization is because there are no clear service terms.
He also doesn’t understand why soldiers on the front lines are not being rotated, even though there are “five million military personnel” in the country.
