17.10.2024 - 09:52Russian forces have begun using drones connected via fiber optic cables, making them immune to Ukrainian electronic warfare (EW) systems.
This information reported according to Andriy Otchenash, the UAV crew commander of the 4th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, who spoke during a televised marathon.
“This is a rarer type, more targeted for specific objectives. The main advantage is that EW systems cannot currently ‘neutralize’ it because the communication relies on a ‘thread,’ so to speak, stretching up to 5 kilometers,” Otchenash explained.
He added that Russian forces are not facing a shortage of drones and are deploying them every 15 minutes, often giving Ukrainian soldiers no time to even take breaks. However, he noted that Ukrainian forces surpass Russia in terms of piloting skills.
In early September, Western expert Julian Röpcke mentioned the use of fiber optic drones by Russian forces, based on a video showing a drone destroying an Australian Bushmaster armored vehicle in the Kursk region.
Additionally, recent reports from the U.S. media revealed that Russian troops are using illegal Starlink terminals to enhance coordination during offensives. This has allowed for more frequent drone sorties and more accurate artillery strikes.
