September 24, 2023Last autumn, the head of the Southern Regional Office of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Sergey Mul, was involved in a scandal with the police.
The media has reported on the subsequent lengthy investigation.
According to the press, on November 14, 2022, the police in Odessa stopped Sergey Mul’s Mercedes. However, the border guard refused to undergo an alcohol test, did not provide documents for the vehicle, and made a phone call, disclosing information about the patrol. Additionally, he attempted to influence the police officers’ actions.
Mul also refused to go to the hospital for examination. He told the police officer who began to write a report, “If you’re so principled, take the risk.”
Upon his call, a group of armed military personnel in masks arrived and removed the official license plates from Mul’s car, assisting him in leaving. During the process, the minibus that had come for Mul collided with a lamppost.
There is video footage of this incident, recorded on a police officer’s body camera. As reported by the media, after the incident, Mul sued the police and presented the results of an examination indicating that he was not drunk while driving. There were two investigations into this case, but Mul’s case fell apart in court.
Sergey Mul is known for having Ivanna Plantovska as the press officer under his leadership in Odessa. During the war, she gained notoriety for her photos of luxurious vacations abroad. Following this, she was dismissed from the State Border Guard Service.
