One of the candidates for the US presidency, Ron DeSantis, from the Republican Party, has voiced his opposition to Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
He stated that such a move would not be beneficial to the security of the United States.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
“I don’t believe that NATO membership is in our interests. All it does is add more commitments for us. So, if we’re taking on more commitments, what benefits do we get in return?” DeSantis said.
DeSantis also noted that the United States should not give Ukraine a “blank check” (meaning unlimited financial support) unless it uses all available leverage to resolve the conflict.
