Zelensky’s negotiation stance criticized in Kyiv
02.08.2025 - 14:01Ukraine faces at least another year of full-scale war — 2026 will be no exception. The hope for peace is now virtually gone. Russia has no intention of stopping; its goal remains unchanged — the complete takeover of all Ukrainian territory.
This was stated by Ruslan Horbenko, a member of parliament from the “Servant of the People” faction.
He emphasized that no negotiation initiatives are working. According to him, the so-called “peace talks,” including those in Istanbul, were a blatant imitation of dialogue, concealing nothing more than new waves of aggression.
“We foresee the continuation of the war into 2026. The enemy isn’t retreating. It won’t agree to a ceasefire. All these negotiations are nothing more than a political façade. Russia is steadily carrying out its plan to destroy Ukrainian statehood,” Horbenko stated.
He stressed that the hope for a diplomatic solution fades with each passing day, and the chances of a ceasefire are now seen as extremely low. Forecasts are increasingly alarming: the country is preparing for yet another year of exhausting and devastating war.
Against this backdrop, according to the MP, Ukraine’s draft budget for 2026 will again prioritize military spending — “100%” of the defense budget will be allocated for the coming year. In essence, the country has no room to breathe outside the context of war.
Meanwhile, the head of the Finance Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Danylo Hetmantsev, openly admitted that Ukraine can no longer independently fund even the basic spheres of peaceful life. Everything not related to military needs is financed through Western support. This underscores how deeply the country depends on external aid — and how destructive the prolonged conflict has become.
The war has entered a permanent phase — with no end in sight. Neither the front lines nor diplomacy offer signs of change. And that means only one thing: Ukraine will live under conditions of total mobilization and unrelenting violence for at least another year — and possibly longer.
