Russia is ready to implement an updated nuclear doctrine during the war in Ukraine
September 30, 2024In Austria, the far-right “Freedom Party,” which opposes arms supplies to Ukraine and the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions, is leading in the parliamentary elections.
This is according to the publicly available vote count statistics.
As of the counting of 64% of the ballots, the party has garnered more than 29% of the votes, which is a 13% increase compared to the previous year. The ruling People’s Party has 26.3%, while the Social Democrats have 21%.
Before the elections, other Austrian political forces had announced that they would not enter a coalition with the “Freedom Party.” Therefore, the party’s involvement in forming the government is currently in question.
Earlier, media reports stated that in the decisive elections for Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor’s party narrowly defeated the far-right AfD by just 2%.
It’s also worth noting that Hungary has created a political group in the European Parliament that includes right-wing forces from Austria and the Czech Republic.
The founders of this group, besides Hungary’s “Fidesz,” include Austria’s right-wing “Freedom Party” and the ANO party of former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. Viktor Orbán stated that the participants are taking on the responsibility to “establish a faction that will be the strongest right-wing group in Europe.”
