September 30, 2024The Kremlin has announced its readiness to implement an updated nuclear doctrine during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
This statement was made by Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, in response to a question from Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin about whether the new nuclear weapons doctrine applies to the war in Ukraine.
According to Peskov, the involvement of Western countries in the war is increasing, and against this backdrop, Ukraine is calling for Russia to be “forced into peace.”
“Such discussions are misguided and could lead to very negative consequences for the Kyiv regime. In light of all this, we must make decisions and be prepared to implement them,” said the Kremlin spokesperson.
It’s worth recalling that Russia’s nuclear doctrine states that a war against Russia by a non-nuclear country, supported by a nuclear power, would provide grounds for Moscow to use nuclear weapons.
“Aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state, but with the involvement or support of a nuclear state, is proposed to be considered as a joint attack,” Putin has formulated this stance.
