Almost half of Ukrainians support repealing the law banning the UOC if it would help end the war – survey

45% of surveyed Ukrainians support repealing the law that allows for the banning of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) if this would contribute to ending the war.

This is according to data from a survey by Suspilne.

The decision is considered “completely acceptable” by 24% of respondents in Ukraine, and “rather acceptable” by 21%.

At the same time, fewer respondents — 37% — are “against” repealing the law. Of those, 18% are “rather against” and 19% are “categorically against.”

It’s worth recalling that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a recent meeting with journalists, stated that at the second round of negotiations with Ukraine, the Russian delegation would demand the repeal of church and language laws, as well as neutral status for Ukraine.

Previously, Lavrov said that Moscow would not abandon the Orthodox people of Ukraine in their time of need and would fight for the restoration of the Orthodox Church’s rights.
