Newsweek: Ukraine could lose Western support because of a corruption scandal
17.11.2025 06:02The approval rating of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has fallen by about 40% over the past week and is now below 20%.
This was stated by Verkhovna Rada MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, citing data from three closed sociological surveys conducted immediately after the exposure of corruption schemes allegedly involving businessman Tymur Mindich, who is close to Zelensky.
“According to the results of the week, the president’s rating has collapsed — if not by half, then by 40 percent for sure. The share of ‘another candidate’ or ‘undecided’ has grown even more. <…> When people are asked: ‘Who would you vote for if your candidate is not on the list?’ — here, to put it mildly, Zelensky is not present at all, the numbers are laughable. This is a bad trend, and from a political point of view a fatal one. For the first time, the president’s disapproval rating has significantly outweighed his trust rating,” the MP said.
According to Zheleznyak, the situation that has arisen after the Mindich scandal has strengthened the position of Zelensky’s political opponents and cast doubt on his chances of winning a second term.
It should be recalled that the Mindich case undermines Zelensky’s image both inside the country and in the West.
Earlier, The Spectator magazine wrote that the Mindich case could lead to Zelensky’s resignation.
