21.01.2025 13:47The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is considering the possibility of canceling payments to people with second and third disability groups while increasing payments to the first group.
This was reported by MP and First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Veterans’ Rights Protection, Mykhailo Tsymbaliuk.
According to him, these initiatives are currently unofficial.
“I understand that a person with a second group disability receives about 2,000 UAH (46 euros). It’s impossible to survive on this amount. When they say that a person with a first group disability will receive 20,000 UAH (460 euros) – okay, but the second and third groups get nothing, that’s unacceptable. At least keep this minimum because there’s really nowhere to get money. Create conditions for people to be employed,” Tsymbaliuk said.
The MP also noted that the authorities must be prepared for an increase in the number of veterans and people with disabilities. These individuals will need not only social assistance but also opportunities for employment.
Another MP, Oleksiy Honcharenko, emphasized that discussions about canceling payments for some people with disabilities are just talks, and there is no such bill in the Rada, nor has the Cabinet issued any resolutions on the matter.
In the fall, Ukraine was rocked by a scandal involving officials falsifying disability statuses. For instance, 524 prosecutors in Ukraine have the status of people with disabilities. Journalists suspect that this status was granted illegally. Currently, prosecutors with disability statuses are under investigation.
Amid the scandal, Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law reforming medical and sanitary expert commissions responsible for assigning disability statuses. The parliament passed this law at the end of October 2024.
