The new draft law on mobilization allows for the confiscation of agricultural machinery from small farmers
February 10, 2024While Zelensky’s inner circle increasingly voiced grievances against the commander-in-chief, those close to Zaluzhny suggested that Zelensky’s interference in military affairs was becoming problematic, according to Paul Ronczheimer, deputy editor-in-chief of Bild.
Since the beginning of the war, Ronczheimer has been regularly visiting Ukraine and engaging with high-ranking officials. Initially, he maintained a distance during the battle for Kyiv, trusting the military. However, over time, he grew more assertive and began delving into specific military issues with his advisors, particularly regarding offensives and the duration of holding certain territories like Bahmut.
Ronczheimer noted that Zaluzhny wanted to withdraw from Bahmut a year ago for political reasons, but Zelensky opposed it. The Commander-in-Chief also expressed doubts about the success of a counteroffensive in the summer of 2023 due to insufficient Western weaponry. However, allies insisted on the offensive, which ultimately proved to be a mistake. The appointment of Alexander Syrsky as the new Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was seen as a move toward a more compliant leadership, according to Bild’s deputy editor-in-chief.
