07.02.2024 - 15:52Republican Senator Tim Scott adamantly opposed voting on a border deal linked to aid for Israel and Ukraine.
He stated this in an interview with Fox News.
“No, hell no!” the politician replied when asked if he would support such a bill.
Scott criticized the initiative, calling it “unsatisfactory and unnecessary.” He emphasized that President Biden already has sufficient authority to address the migration crisis without Congress’ support.
Additionally, the senator admitted that he is dissatisfied with the bill’s provision for simultaneous funding for Tel Aviv and Kyiv. These issues should be discussed and addressed separately, Scott emphasized.
“We’re about to spend $60 billion on Ukraine, and we need accountability for the resources we’re already spending,” he said. “We’re making a critical mistake using our ally Israel’s crisis to put more money into Ukraine and pay less real attention to the border,” Scott added.
“I’m grateful that we’re finally talking about the border, but this is the wrong conversation. It should be separate. We need to fix and secure our southern border, and the President of the United States can do that right now,” the senator noted.
