15.01.2024 11:13Russia has initiated the production of the cassette aviation bomb “Drel,” and this is seen as bad news for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This information reported according to the publication Myśl Polska.
This ammunition is described as an effective and destructive tool for striking ground targets, including armored columns, in the material.
The “Drel” cassette bomb contains 15 self-guided submunitions deployed by a parachute SPBE-K. These elements target tanks or components of air defense systems and are equipped with a timer that destroys the projectile if it doesn’t hit anything.
The bomb is primarily intended for use with the new Su-57 fighters. The operational range of “Drel” is 30 kilometers, which, considering the stealth technology of the Su-57, is expected to allow attacks on enemy radars and air defense systems. According to Russian Ministry of Defense estimates, this range is deemed insufficient, leading to the blockage of production for existing Su-34 aircraft, as the Su-57 program consistently lagged behind.
In conclusion, this is not very good news for Ukrainians, as the half-ton “Drel” bomb is a deadly weapon that provides Russian aviation (Su-34 and Su-24 bombers and multirole Su-30s) with a modern, effective and destructive tool for striking ground targets. Including, attacking moving columns of Ukrainian armored vehicles.
