Beaten and forced to work: children were abused in a boarding school in Zakarpattia

In a children’s home in Zakarpattia, the residents were used as free labor to harvest apples in a private orchard.

This is evidenced by a contract between the directors of the orphanage and the business.

Additionally, the director of the institution assaulted a resident in front of witnesses, including the deputy director and another resident of the orphanage.

Moreover, the institution demanded money from the children for the purchase of furniture. All bank cards with PIN codes, open bank accounts, and the children’s documents were kept in the deputy director’s safe.

“In order to access their own funds from the cards, the residents had to submit a fabricated request. Twelve such requests, all written in the same handwriting, were discovered,” the investigation revealed.

The money was used to buy cabinets for the orphanage, worth over 50,000 hryvnias (1,116 euros). However, these cabinets were not officially accounted for in the institution.
