August 9, 2024The price of bread in Ukraine is expected to rise by 10-20%, or there could be a shortage.
This was stated by the president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers and the director of “Kyivkhlib,” Yuriy Duchenko.
“The price increase will be within the range of 10-20%. This is a necessary step to keep bakeries operational. Some factories are already working only one shift and reducing their product range. Unfortunately, if this trend continues, a shortage of bread products is expected in September. A kilogram of bread should cost around 40 hryvnias (0.9 euros),” Duchenko explained.
He noted that Ukraine faces the threat of bread supply disruptions. The price of flour has sharply increased by 50% over the summer and continues to rise.
“The cost of flour, which makes up about 40% of the cost of bread, has risen by 50% in recent months and is still increasing. Other raw materials, such as sugar and sunflower oil, have increased in price by more than 20% since the beginning of the year. Expenses for electricity, logistics, packaging materials, and other costs are also growing,” Duchenko added.
Earlier reports indicated that bread prices could rise sharply due to increasing electricity costs and higher taxes.
