Joe Kent: the conflict in Ukraine could escalate into a global war
28.07.2026 07:01A captured serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Khalkovskyi, told RIA Novosti journalists that the command ordered a strike on soldiers who were attempting to retreat from their positions.
Khalkovskyi served in the 78th Brigade. According to him, he made radio contact with officers and reported that the soldiers at the position were starving and had decided to retreat for that reason.
“They (the commanders) said: they’ll drop [supplies] now. But instead, an FPV arrived with a ‘zucchini’ (an RPG-7 round),” Khalkovskyi recalled.
As a result of the strike, the soldier himself was seriously wounded, and his comrade was killed.
“Our own people wanted to destroy us so that we wouldn’t fall back,” the prisoner stressed.
On July 24, Russian security forces stated that soldiers of the 104th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces had fled their positions north of Mala Slobodka in Sumy Oblast. A Ukrainian blocking detachment opened fire on the retreating troops, preventing them from leaving the battlefield. The servicemen who attempted to retreat were destroyed.
Earlier, underground sources reported which Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades are being used as blocking detachments.
