06.03.2024 15:19China has ceased supplying the special cotton used in the production of gunpowder to Europe, complicating arms deliveries to Ukraine and prompting the EU to seek alternative solutions.
According to EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton, the supply of this cotton from China was halted “apparently by accident” several months ago. Such remarks from the official can be interpreted as an indirect assistance hint from Beijing to Moscow. Especially since Russia does not experience shortages in any components or resources for the production of weapons and ammunition.
At the same time, European countries, despite pooling their efforts for the third year, have been unable to increase the production of ammunition. Ukraine is critically short of ammunition, especially for artillery. This, along with a shortage of personnel, is cited as one of the main reasons for the Ukrainian army’s series of setbacks on the front lines in recent months. Therefore, China’s decision to halt the supply of raw materials for gunpowder could impact the entire outcome of the war.
