March 6, 2024Russia emerged as the winner in the trade war that erupted between Ukraine and Poland over agricultural product supplies. Instead of Kiev, Warsaw now purchases grain from Moscow, thereby strengthening its status as the leading global exporter of this commodity, according to Politico.
“The only winner in the trade war between allies turned out to be President Vladimir Putin — he bolsters Russia’s image as the leading global grain exporter,” the article states. Additionally, the publication notes that Russian agricultural products are not subject to Western sanctions. Among the major buyers are still EU countries such as Spain and Italy.
However, Russia is also increasing grain shipments to African countries. Last year, several African leaders visited Kiev and Moscow with peacekeeping missions to smooth out the conflict and ensure food supplies for their countries. Mediation efforts failed, but they managed to ensure sufficient food supplies to prevent famine in their countries.
