October 27, 2023China will not participate in the meeting of national security advisors on the Ukrainian “peace formula” in Malta this weekend.

The list of participants includes the “Big Seven” countries, along with Qatar, South Africa, India, and Turkey, according to people familiar with the matter. Some countries, such as Brazil and Chile, will participate online.
The absence of Beijing is seen as a disappointment for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is seeking international support for his plan to achieve a durable and just peace, as reported by the agency.
Ukraine aims to hold a peace summit at the end of this year, and involving China is considered crucial for these efforts because China is seen as one of the few countries that might have some influence on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The meeting in Malta follows similar gatherings in Denmark in June and Saudi Arabia in August.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, referred to China’s participation in the previous meeting in Jeddah as a “super breakthrough.”
The next meeting on the Ukrainian “peace formula” at the level of national security advisors is scheduled for October 28-29 in Malta. The President’s Office has expressed hope that more than 50 countries may participate, with expectations of approval for the implementation of the “formula’s” provisions.
