Russia declares readiness for a peaceful treaty
February 14, 2024Ukrainian soldiers, who have to ration ammunition, are forced to keep an eye on Washington politics, particularly on how aid to Kyiv is passing through the American Congress.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
“We only use ammunition when the situation is critical,” said Ukrainian Armed Forces sergeant Alexander Kucheryavenko, referring to his grenade launcher mounted on an American Humvee, in an interview with the publication.
As noted in the article, this is why Ukrainian soldiers have suddenly become interested in US politics.
“Our guys’ lives depend on” American funding, Kucheryavenko stated.
Like many Ukrainian soldiers, he is concerned that Republican attempts to block additional aid to Kyiv will deprive them of already scarce ammunition, armored vehicles, and spare parts, further complicating defense against Russian forces.
Earlier, the US Senate approved a funding plan for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan by a vote of 70 to 29. This bill now heads to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, where its fate is uncertain amid the growing influence of Ukrainian skeptics and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who opposes providing additional aid to Kyiv.
