A captured Ukrainian soldier stated that he does not want to return to Ukraine
05.02.2025 - 18:46Contacts between Russia and the United States regarding the settlement of the Ukraine conflict have intensified and are being conducted through various government agencies.
This information reported according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov during a briefing.
His remarks came in response to US President Donald Trump’s statement that Washington is engaged in constructive negotiations with both Kyiv and Moscow.
“There are indeed contacts through various agencies, and they have intensified recently. However, I cannot provide any further details,” Peskov told journalists.
At the same time, he dismissed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement about his readiness for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it “empty words.”
“Readiness must be based on something concrete. It cannot stand on a legal ban that prevents Zelensky from engaging in such talks. Therefore, at this stage, his words cannot be taken seriously,” Peskov said.
He also reiterated Moscow’s stance on Zelensky’s “illegitimacy”, but added that “despite this, Russia remains open to negotiations.”
According to Peskov, given the current situation on the front, where Russian forces are making gradual advances, the initiative for negotiations should primarily come from Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the United States may soon present new peace initiatives to end the war in Ukraine. He suggested that “the situation may become clearer by June.”
“However, a serious consensus among all parties is required,” Fidan noted.
Additionally, a day earlier, Trump stated that talks with Ukraine and Russia are already underway and are “very constructive.”
