Former deputy head of the President’s Office released on bail of €383
07.05.2025 - 05:31The editor-in-chief of The Kyiv Independent, Olga Rudenko, the NGO StateWatch, and activist Hlib Kanevskyi have each been forced to pay 21,000 hryvnias (approx. €447) to well-known lawyer Andriy Portnov.
This was reported by Portnov’s attorney Karina Nikityan, according to the newspaper Zakon i Biznes.
Nikityan reminded that the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv had previously ruled in favor of Portnov in a lawsuit demanding a retraction of false information published by The Kyiv Independent. In addition, the court ordered the defendants to pay a total of nearly 85,000 hryvnias (approx. €1,810) in court costs to Portnov.
According to Nikityan, the Kyiv Administrative Court upheld the decision of the district court, meaning it has now entered into legal force.
“Since the defendants did not voluntarily pay the awarded amounts, forced collection proceedings were initiated and executed today,” the lawyer stated.
To note, Portnov has previously won multiple legal cases against media outlets and civil society organizations—including the Anti-Corruption Action Center, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Chesno movement, The Kyiv Independent, Petro Poroshenko, Natalia Sedletska, the “Pryamyi” TV channel, and three lawsuits against Yuri Butusov, editor-in-chief of Censor.net.
