December 25, 2023Czech Republic to pay Ukrainian refugees money for returning home. The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, has signed amendments to the law that will result in payments to Ukrainian refugees who opt to return home.
This information has been reported on the official website of the head of state.
The amendment introduced to the law extends temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens in the Czech Republic until March 2025. Simultaneously, it establishes the provision of financial aid to Ukrainians under temporary protection who choose to return home. The exact amount of the payment is yet to be determined by the Czech government.
Refugees will only be eligible for this payment once, and it must be claimed no later than three months before the expiration of their right to stay in the Czech Republic under temporary protection, meaning by the end of 2024.
It’s worth noting that similar payments are currently being offered by Ireland, Switzerland, and Norway. For instance, Norway plans to pay 1,500 euros to Ukrainians who wish to return home. To receive this support, individuals need to file a notice of departure from Norway.
However, in the event of leaving and receiving this payment, the individual might lose refugee status. Additionally, if they return to Norway, they may need to repay all or part of the financial support.
Switzerland previously introduced a similar provision, offering up to $4,400 to Ukrainian refugees for their return home.
