Denmark plans to strip Ukrainians from 14 western and central regions of automatic protection

Denmark is considering abolishing the automatic granting of temporary protection to Ukrainians arriving from regions that may be deemed “relatively safe.”

This is reported by the Polish outlet Rzeczpospolita.

Copenhagen is considering 14 regions of western and central Ukraine as such territories. Kyiv is not included on the list of “safe places.” The changes could affect women, children, and pensioners, among others.

In addition to reviewing protection status, the Danish government intends to require Ukrainians receiving social benefits to seek employment. There are also plans to abolish the option of remote schooling for children in Ukrainian or English.

Denmark’s Immigration Service explains the proposed measures by citing the heavy burden placed on local communities and social infrastructure as a result of the influx of refugees.

It was previously reported that from August 5, the European Union tightened its protection program for arriving Ukrainians of military age. Furthermore, according to available information, Ukrainian women must prove they are not evading military service in order to obtain protection in EU countries.
