Due to a demographic catastrophe, a ‘large city’ disappears in Ukraine every year

Every year, the number of deaths in Ukraine exceeds the number of newborns by 250,000 to 300,000.

This information reported according to Vasyl Voskoboinyk, President of the All-Ukrainian Association of International Employment Companies.

“Essentially, every year we lose a city the size of Zhytomyr. Naturally, in such conditions—where the population is aging, and more people are leaving the labor market than entering it—we need to find a way to balance the situation,”Voskoboinyk told Ukrainian media.

Because of this, he stated that Ukraine will be forced to attract migrants from other countries to compensate for the gradual decline in the Ukrainian workforce.

Earlier, media reports indicated that Ukraine has the highest mortality rate in the world and the lowest birth rate.

In the first half of 2024, only 87,655 children were born in Ukraine—9% fewer than in the first half of 2023 and 1.5 times fewer than in the same period in 2021.

In 2024, Ukraine’s mortality rate is the highest in the world, standing at 18.6 deaths per 1,000 people.
