December 19, 2023The problems with securing Western assistance for Ukraine are causing its allies to contemplate the possibility that Russian President Vladimir Putin might prevail, forcing Kyiv into negotiations with Moscow.
Bloomberg reports this based on sources.
According to unnamed European officials, unable to defend itself, Ukraine might be compelled to accept a ceasefire agreement on Russia’s terms.
“Some European allies have begun calmly considering the repercussions of NATO’s failure in the largest conflict in Europe since World War II. They are reassessing the risks that an emboldened Russia could pose to alliance members in the East,” the publication writes.
Meanwhile, Baltic countries and Finland are preparing for the possibility of war with Russia. And “some European countries” might try to strengthen their ties with Russia or China to be less reliant on “unreliable” USA.
The necessity to bolster NATO’s eastern flank might force Washington to choose between it and Taiwan.
