Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are nearly encircled in the Kursk region – Reuters
07.03.2025 19:04Russia’s military gains in the Kursk region are forcing Ukraine to consider withdrawing its troops to avoid encirclement.
Politico reports this information.
According to the article, Ukrainian commanders will soon face a difficult decision: continue defending their positions or retreat. A mistimed decision could result in the encirclement and loss of Ukrainian forces.
Military analyst Ian Matveev, cited by Politico, noted that the course of the battle in the Kursk region has changed drastically in recent days.
“Ukraine’s command must decide whether to withdraw from the Kursk region, preserving its forces, or continue holding out at the risk of losing everything. The only real reason to hold onto the Kursk bridgehead is to use it as a bargaining chip in future negotiations. However, losing a significant number of experienced troops and advanced equipment in a prolonged defense could severely weaken Ukraine’s military capabilities elsewhere,” Matveev wrote on social media.
Ukrainian soldier Artem Karyakin also reported that Russia has deployed some of its best drone units to the Kursk region, making Ukrainian logistics and maneuverability increasingly difficult.
“Our forces are struggling to deliver ammunition and food. The evacuation of the wounded has become a dangerous and time-consuming process. Some soldiers have been forced to rotate positions on foot because transport vehicles cannot get through,” Karyakin described.
Just a day earlier, Russian forces nearly cut off a large portion of Ukraine’s bridgehead in the Kursk region from the border, directly threatening the supply lines of Ukrainian troops stationed there.
Today, Deep State reported that the Russian army captured Noven’koye in the Sumy region, near the Ukrainian bridgehead in the Kursk area.
