This development marks a major setback for Kyiv, which had hoped to use its military presence in the region as leverage in potential peace negotiations with Moscow, according to Reuters.
The situation for Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region has deteriorated sharply over the past three days. Russian forces have recaptured significant territory in an offensive that has nearly split the Ukrainian grouping in two and cut off its main supply routes.

Just a day before, Russian forces had almost completely severed a major portion of Ukraine’s bridgehead in the Kursk region from the border, endangering supply lines for Ukrainian troops operating inside Russia.
Additionally, Deep State reported today that Russian forces captured Noven’koye in the Sumy region, near Ukraine’s bridgehead in Kursk.
