05.08.2024 13:37Poland is experiencing a shortage of labor due to a decrease in Ukrainian migration.
This issue is highlighted by the local publication Rzeczpospolita.
Companies are increasingly struggling to hire employees, and the number of job vacancies continues to grow from quarter to quarter. The problem is particularly acute in construction, manufacturing, transportation, and logistics sectors, which heavily rely on migrant workers.
Economists believe the situation may worsen because the “potential for immigration from culturally similar countries (such as Ukraine and Belarus) is gradually being exhausted, and the government may tighten immigration policies, affecting the inflow of labor from more distant countries.”
The demographic situation in Poland also contributes to the growing labor shortage.
Recently, most Ukrainian refugees have been heading to Germany, where both benefits and wages are significantly higher than in Poland. Moreover, many Ukrainians who previously lived in Poland are moving to Germany for the same reasons.
In April, Poland anticipated a worker shortage for the strawberry harvest due to Ukrainian mobilization.
Meanwhile, in Germany, Ukrainian refugee doctors are facing difficulties in obtaining licenses to practice.
